electron microscope Shader Project

Concept / Updates / Breakdown

Update three:

Finished the first render using maya and litterbug, the second was done using a new shader that creates renderman hairs.

Update Two:

More work has been done on the model and started to add small hairs to the body. I used my litterbug mel script to place all the hairs but then had to rotate them to face the correct way.

Update One:

I started out using Malcom Kesson’s example of facing ratios. The first step I took was to add the opacity back into code because the original caused everything to be transparent. Next I added in the ability to change the rim color. After that I tested several idea dealing with displacement maps to test inner object details. I think I will remove this feature due to problems with the bucket size.

I started the ant model in Zbrush and found several things quite surprising. The first was the render time, it had taken less time to render then it was to import the model into Maya (under 5 seconds). The next thing was the ability of the shader to bring out all the detail.
